is focused on creating awareness for the important role riparian zones play in protecting the water quality of Sylvan Lake. The project will highlight many of the Beneficial Management Practices (BMP’s) being implemented throughout the inflow drainage commonly known as Golf Course Creek.
The project will bring together government, industry and private landowners committed to protecting the long-term sustainability of this local drainage. The resulting outcome is intended to act as a model that can be reproduced on all inflow streams at Sylvan Lake.
BMP’s are intended to improve the sustainability of our natural resources. In a recreational lake watershed such as Sylvan Lake, water quality is the key ecological good that supports and sustains the economic, social and environmental qualities of the watershed. Balancing social and environmental values with economic values is the challenge of sustainability.
BMP’s represent actions that can be taken to either avoid or reduce impacts of use and development in the watershed. A focus of this report is to identify BMP’s to help protect Sylvan Lake.
