Why should you join the Sylvan Lake Watershed Stewardship Society?

Protection of Sylvan Lake’s clean water is our number one priority.  You only need to go as far as Pigeon Lake to see firsthand the effects of an algae bloom.  Instead of clear clean water, the water is brown.  Swim bans are frequent and often there is an unpleasant smell.  Once a lake becomes infested, there is little chance of bringing it back.  Let’s not let this happen to Sylvan Lake.

To be an effective body, we need members.  Government regulators and politicians understand numbers.  If we have a large organization representing all walks of life, they respect and respond to numbers.

If you are already a member of SLWSS, thank you.  If you know someone who will benefit from the protection of Sylvan Lake, please ask them to join.  We understand that everyone is busy, to this end we recognize that members will have different levels of engagement in the organization.

1. Supportive: These members give moral support and provide the membership numbers we require to be effective.  The supportive member is a vital part of our organization, but will not be asked to participate beyond lending a voice.
   
   
2. Participating: These are members who want to participate to some level.  They will help out with events and lend a hand when requested.  This is a supportive role requiring little time while providing help to the society.
   
   
3. Leadership:  These are members who wish to participate in a leadership role in the society.  They will become committee members and may wish to belong to the board of directors or executive.

We are asking you and any of your friends or relatives to join us to help protect Sylvan Lake.
